The Obesity Society is the leading non-profit, voluntary association whose purpose is to develop, extend and disseminate knowledge in the field of obesity. Composed of approximately 2,200 researchers and clinicians, the Society conducts the largest scientific meeting on obesity each year and is involved in advocacy, education, and expanding public awareness.
Career Opportunities at TOS:
Education Manager
The Manager, Education is a permanent, part-time position (20 hours/week). He/she will:
- Oversee the TOS continuing education for all programs except the annual meeting including the on-line CME programs, certification education and other special meetings
- Develop and monitor project budgets for all education endeavors
- Work closely with the Accreditation Consultant to ensure all ACCME policies, requirements and data collection are adhered to properly
- Manage the grant application process for all education programs including writing some grant requests and working with a commissioned consultant
- Guide and support the efforts of volunteers developing education content
The ideal individual will be an analytical, self-motivated and willing to work as part of a team in a small association environment. They will have:
- Proven experience in planning, designing, implementing and evaluating education programs for live and distance learning
- Experience in planning and managing budgets for education programs
- Ability to manage outside consultants
- Background in writing education grant proposals
- Strong relationship skills to manage the balance of guiding and support volunteer groups
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are imperative
- At least 5 years experience in program design and development preferred
- Experience as staff liaison to volunteer committees also preferred

Meetings Assistant
The Obesity Society is seeking a full-time (40 hours/week) Meetings Assistant to provide programmatic and logistical support for educational programs. The tasks assigned are:
- Assist with coordination of content for Annual Meeting and other educational programs
- Manage annual meeting speaker invitation process
- Assist communications team with content development for education portion of website and for social media
- Answer annual meeting-related inquiries from the membership
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements include:
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong customer service skills
- The ability to prioritize and focus on multiple tasks during peak periods
- The ability to work with others in a small-staff setting
- A proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
