The Director of Education will oversee The Obesity Society's continuing education for all programs except the annual meeting including the online CME programs, certification education and other special meetings.  Additionally, the Director will guide and support the efforts of volunteers developing and reviewing education content.  The ideal individual will be an analytical, self-motivated and highly experienced individual who can develop new educational programs and work well in an association environment.

Strategic Oversight

  • Identify needs and gaps for new education opportunities  - identify potential partners and programs – manage implementation
  • Develop and oversee all ACCME activities
  • Work with the Communications Director to develop and implement marketing plan to promote education activities
  • Develop, manage, report and analyze all education related budgets, expenses and revenue
  • Provide experienced guidance for volunteer committees in developing education programs, i.e. offering recommendations for best practices, ideas for providing education, delivery methods, cost-savings opportunities, etc.


  • Manage relationship, needs and requirements of all faculty providing CME content
  • Manage and oversee all content provider contracts, implementation and work product, including coordinating needs for faculty
  • Develop and manage the association's educational programs other than annual meeting, including online courses, the Internet Slide Library (Obesity Online), CD-ROM based programs, ABOM curriculum, etc. Answer user inquiries about these programs
  • Oversee speaker/chair confirmation process, including notification, verification and communication regarding presentation guidelines, instructions, reimbursements, AV requirements, etc. for ABOM and other pre-conference workshops/courses


  • Oversee and manage CME software and vendors and arrange staff training as needed
  • Coordinate with Annual Program Committee to ensure ACCME is an integral part of education planning.
  • Ensure that all ACCME requirements and reports for all education, including annual conference, are clearly set forth in policy, documents, collected and filed in accordance with self-study evaluations.
  • Work with Accreditation Consultant on all education activities including ABOM, and pre-conference courses to ensure compliance with all ACCME essentials and policies, including reports and renewal self-study documents

Finance & Administration

  • Develop and manage education budget and monitor revenue and expenses through the year providing regular reports
  • Collaborate and manage the development of grants for commercial support of education programs
  • Write requests for proposals and manage RFP process for education programs
