The Obesity Society has a longstanding history of mutually beneficial partnerships with industry aligned on the common goals of furthering the understanding of obesity and positively impacting public health. Through these partnerships we have developed ongoing relationships that foster understanding of our varied roles in improving public health through science related to the prevention and treatment of obesity. Through sponsorship of our annual meeting and special projects; competitive, TOS-administered research grants for our membership; and travel grants for early career scientists to attend our meetings, these industry relationships have furthered TOS and its scientists in seeking meaningful evidence-based solutions for obesity. More details about TOS programs and mission are available throughout our website www.obesity.org.

The Obesity Society (TOS) Corporate Engagement Groups

Through our corporate engagement groups made up of industry partners, we work to co-develop projects designed to further TOS's mission to improve the lives of those affected by obesity. Currently, TOS has two such groups: the Corporate Healthcare Advisory Council (CHAC), previously the Corporate Advisory Committee (CAC), and our Food Industry Engagement Council (FIEC). We are seeking to add a third focused primarily in the physical activity sector.

These groups convene regularly to identify goals in keeping with TOS's core mission and to develop initiatives around those goals. A most recent example is the Treat Obesity Seriously campaign designed to educate healthcare providers about obesity and evidence-based treatment.

Corporate Engagement Policy

TOS is committed to fundamental ethical principles in accepting support from industry. These include transparency and non-influence. Details of our “Guidelines for Accepting Funds from External Sources” can be found here.
