Hello Health Services Researchers!

It's amazing to see that spring is finally here, for the most part, and we've made it through a quarter of yet another year.  While, we still don't have encouraging news about stopping the obesity epidemic, it's exciting that the President and his wife are garnering attention with a special focus on childhood obesity.  As health services researchers, this should give us more ammunition and support to delve further into practices and evidence that can impact the US population for generations to come.

Now onto business.....
Obesity 2010, 28th Annual Scientific Meeting

As a reminder - Early-Bird Registration for Obesity 2010, in San Diego, CA, is from April 1st - June 30th.  The meeting will be October 8-12th, 2010.  Our Section meeting has been scheduled for Saturday, October 9 from 6:30-7:30pm.

Go to http://www.obesity.org/obesity2010/reg.asp to register today!  The Abstract Submission center is open until noon eastern time April 12th.
Section Leaders

Under the new TOS bylaws, it's time to consider new leaders for the HSR Section.  We're seeking nominations for the positions of chair, chair-elect and secretary to take office for the coming year at the annual meeting (October 8-12th, 2010).

The Call for nominations will be open from April 12th - April 30th; and E-ballots open for voting May 17th - May 28th.  There need to be at least two candidates for each open position to have an open section election.  E-ballots will be sent out to all section members.  Due to the newness of this section, the current leaders have expressed willingess to serve in whatever advisory capacity the new leadership desires.

If you or someone you know would be interested in serving as a leader of the HSR Section, please submit those nominations to Sadie Campbell at The Obesity Society: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. HSR Section Website

While you are on the The Obesity Society website (www.obesity.org), check out the new Section area. You'll see a link for "Sections" along the left-hand side of the home page - and we have a bit of preliminary information posted.  We'd love for you to send us more content!  If you have recently published, presented, been awarded, etc., anything of relevance to Obesity HSR, we'd  like to include it on our Section website.

Please send information to Sarah Sampsel and she will forward as appropriate to the The Obesity Society and get it posted.  Please share your successes or needs for partnership and collaboration.  We'd like to make our Section area useful to you - so feel free to share suggestions and comments.
We hope that everyone is having a healthy, productive year and that you'll continue your interest in the HSR section.  Please feel free to contact any of us with any comments or suggestions you may have.
