Obesity 2011 Meeting: Pediatric Obesity Section Symposium Proposals Due to POS November 7th

Quick Links

Dear Pediatric Obesity Section Member,

We hope you enjoyed Obesity 2010!  Thank you to all who were able to join us at our Section meeting to celebrate our 2010 Oded Bar-Or Award winner, Dr. Leann Birch, and learn from her many years of path-breaking research on the development of food preferences in children.

As a reminder, preparation for Obesity 2011 is currently underway.  The POS council is soliciting ideas and proposals for pediatric obesity symposia and also keynote speakers.

Pediatric ObesitySymposia Proposals for Obesity 2011

Proposals should:

  • Focus on topics that have not been covered at the Obesity 2009 or 2010 meetings;
  • Be clear about the relevance of the topic to pediatric obesity research and/or policy change;
  • Include a mix of members/non-members;
  • And, involve speakers who you know to be excellent scientists, who can clearly communicate the relevance of their work to a general audience, and who have not spoken at TOS in the last couple of years.  At this point, speakers cannot be formally invited as the TOS Annual Program Committee needs flexibility to create a coherent and effective program.

Obtaining support from POS for your proposal rather than submitting it to TOS directly may improve the likelihood of being accepted for the 2011 meeting.

Please send your ideas to Sadie Campbell ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) and Lilian Vodoti ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) by November 7thThe ideas should include:

1) Suggested Symposia Topic

2) A few bullets describing the topic and its relevance

3) Speaker and Chair recommendations

4) Contact information for the speaker and chair recommendations

The POS council will review the submissions and submit a list of pediatric obesity symposia ideas and key note speaker suggestions to TOS directly. You will receive notification by November 23rd so that if your proposal is not submitted by POS you may send it directly to TOS for review (TOS deadline: November 30th).

The Symposia Submission Site will be open during the first week in November.  If you have any questions, contact Ellen Demerath, POS Chair.
