2017 Call for Nominations

Now accepting nominations for Council and the Nominating Committee.

The Obesity Society is accepting nominations for Council and Nominating Committee through Friday, June 30, 2017. Nominees must be Fellows or regular members of The Obesity Society in good standing. North American and international residents are eligible for office.

There are four vacancies on Council and three vacancies on the Nominating Committee.

Council

Councilors serve in an advisory role and have targeted duties for the functioning of the Society. Councilors' responsibilities includes oversight of and reporting on the activities of assigned Committees, Sections and Task Forces. Office term for Councilors is three years with the exception of Vice President, who subsequently serves as President-elect, President and Immediate Past President (four-year commitment). The FOUR positions to be placed on the elections ballot are:

  4. Council-At-Large: Representative for Mexico 

Please note the following transitions:

  • Dr. Allen Levine, PhD will become Immediate Past President

  • Dr. Caroline Apovian, MD will become President

  • Dr. Steve Heymsfield, MD will become President-Elect

     

    There are THREE vacancies on the Nominating Committee.

     All nominations should consider the goal of having a diverse Council and Nominating Committee with respect to intellectual interests as well as gender, race/ethnicity, and age.

    HOW TO NOMINATE

    Please submit your nomination by indicating the position you have interest in serving.

    Please include your complete CV and statement as outlined below.

    *You must obtain 10 signatures of support from current members of The Obesity Society (10 signatures on one letter or 10 individual letters will be accepted).     

      

    Nominate a Colleague

    Please verify with the person you are nominating that they have an interest in serving.

    The nominee should then submit their complete CV and statement as outlined below.

    *You and/or the nominee must then obtain 10 signatures of support from current members of The Obesity Society (10 signatures on one letter or 10 individual letters will be accepted).

    SUBMITTING YOUR NOMINATION

     How to Submit Your Nomination:

    All nominations should be submitted by email to Regina Williams at governance@obesity.org indicating in the subject line the name of the nominee and the position of interest. 

    The email must include:

     1.    The position of interest

    2.    The nominee's complete CV

    3.    Statement (no more than 500 words). The statement may be edited by TOS staff for clarity and consistency to fit the space available for publication. The 500 word    statement must outline the following:

    Supporters should send an email to governance@obesity.org indicating who they are supporting and for what position.

     

    The deadline for nominations is Friday, June 30, 2017 at 11:59pm ET.
