The Centre for Health Promotion Studies is seeking candidates for a Post-doctoral fellow in the area of Aboriginal health, with a focus on community-oriented obesity prevention research. This position provides an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to acquire proficiency in the participatory approach while pursuing health research addressing the needs of Aboriginal communities in the area of obesity prevention. Important aspects of this position will be the enhancement of the role that Aboriginal people and organizations play in finding community solutions to the issue of obesity and strengthening the capacity of community members to conduct research.
Applications are invited from recent PhD graduates with training in qualitative research methods and a background in health-related fields such as, but not limited to, nutrition, nursing, health promotion, physical education, and psychology. Applicants will have an excellent academic record, a beginning record of publication, and a research program development plan that would be highly competitive in provincial and national funding competitions for post-doctoral awards. The postdoctoral fellow will function as a junior investigator, participating fully in research and related scholarly activities. The successful applicant will be required to apply for independent salary and research funding, participate in the training and mentorship of graduate and undergraduate trainees, work closely and cooperatively with staff, assume leadership responsibilities, and complete research projects.
This position will exist within the context of the Promoting Optimal Weights through Ecological Research (POWER) obesity team led by Dr. Kim Raine; as such, there would be potential (based upon the candidate's interest) for collaborations across other research projects related to obesity.

This is a one year negotiable position, with the possibility that the position may be extended for up to three years (contingent on funding). The salary range is $45,000 - $50,000 per annum.
