Vice President of Research

The VPR will lead the strategic planning and entrepreneurial development of scientific research programs including research related to the newly-created Obesity Center and will oversee all aspects of research at the institution. The VPR will be responsible for creating the basic science, public health and translational directions and approaches of the institution’s obesity research objectives and will develop strategies for implementing the clinical applications related to these research efforts. The VPR will liaise with local, State, Federal and non-federal sponsoring agencies and will augment existing statewide clinical and academic networks on behalf of the institution’s research initiatives. In addition, the VPR will advance and support the research efforts of current junior faculty through mentorship and grantsmanship. The VPR is charged with the expansion of the institution’s research activities, both programmatically and fiscally. Administrative responsibilities of the VPR include oversight of all aspects of research including the newly-created Office of Grants and Research, the Human Research and the Animal Welfare programs of the institution. The VPR reports directly to the President.
The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years experience as a scientific leader of a research institute or university-based department. A PhD, DO, or MD degree is preferred, but we will consider other terminal degrees with related experience. The candidate must have a documented track record of continuous research funding and scholarly contributions, including demonstrated success in scientific mentoring as exemplified by the awarding of career development, training and/or fellowship grants to pre and post doctoral students as well as junior faculty under their supervision. Experience in obesity or other health-related disparities is highly preferred. The successful candidate has experience in strategic planning, budget development and management, and demonstrates vision, creativity, and a sense of entrepreneurship.
This is a full-time non-classified position with full state benefits and is exempt from FLSA provisions regarding overtime.
Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
