Research Nutritionist/ Research Chemist/ Research Molecular Biologist

The USDA, Agricultural Research Service (ARS) at the Grand Forks Human Nutrition Research Center, Grand Forks, North Dakota, is seeking a permanent, full-time scientist to serve as a Research Nutritionist/Research Chemist/Research Molecular Biologist in the Micronutrient Absorption and Metabolism Research Unit.  The incumbent will conduct both independent research and team-based research to provide scientific evidence upon which food and nutrition guidance can be based.  The incumbent will use the tools of metabolism, biochemistry, and molecular biology, including “omics” approaches, to identify responses to dietary and physical activity intervention to prevent unhealthy weight gain.  This will address human metabolism related to energy consumption/expenditure and propensity to gain unhealthy body weight.  Research protocols may include controlled feeding studies of humans with biochemical and/or clinical outcome assessments, and animal model studies of specific mechanisms.  The primary goal of the program is to serve the health interests of American consumers.  There are, however, potential benefits for specific agricultural and food industry groups.  The goal of the incumbent’s research is to provide scientific evidence upon which food and nutrition can be based.

GS-0630/1320/0401-12/13

Salary Range of $67,613 to $104,525 per annum
