The Grand Forks Human Nutrition Center (GFHNRC) is currently recruiting for a Research Associate for the Micronutrient Absorption and Metabolism unit. The mission of the Center is to serve the public by conducting basic and applied research to determine nutritional needs for humans, and to generate information concerning healthy food choices and a healthful food supply. The Center focuses on health roles of foods and food factors, with one emphasis on food habits, physical activity and other lifestyle factors relevant to obesity prevention and maintenance of healthy body weight. The Center is one of the world’s leading centers for nutritional/metabolic studies in humans it has a multi-disciplinary staff of 97; state-of-the-art facilities including a residential Metabolic Unit, a Mobile Lab, a large Vivarium, and research cores in Human Performance, Clinical Biochemistry, Mineral Analysis, Whole Body Radiometry, Cell Biology, Metabolic Kitchens and Biostatistics.

Description of Duties: This project seeks to determine the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) signaling in obesity and exercise. Specifically, this work utilizes transgenic mice with diet-induced obesity models, exercise paradigms, and anti-oxidant supplementation. The incumbent will be required to design and execute experiments, collect data, write and submit manuscripts. The incumbent will also be required to supervise and/or perform tasks related to managing a transgenic mouse colony.

Qualifications: PhD in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related discipline. Knowledge of the use, breeding, and maintenance of transgenic mice is necessary. You must meet all requirements for the position including completion of the PhD within the last 4 years, prior to entrance on duty.

Temporary, Full-time appointment. Not-to-exceed 2 years, with the option of being extended up to four years.

$56,411-$87,893 per annum
