 Creating and Viewing Submissions

  • To begin a new submission choose "Create a New Submission" from the left-hand menu.
  • To view, print, or continue editing choose "View Submissions."


Submission Information

  1. DEADLINE: The deadline for electronic submissions is March 23, 2011 at 11:59 pm Eastern Time.
  2. ABSTRACT LIMIT: There are no restrictions on the number of abstracts you may submit or on the number of accepted abstracts you may present at the Annual Meeting.
  3. WORD LIMIT: There is a limit of 1,500 characters per submission (this translates to approximately 250 words for the text of your submission). You will be advised of your character count usage throughout the submission process as you save and move to the next step.
  4. TITLE AND BODY: The title should be entered in title case. Do not put your title in quotation marks. Do not use formatting tags in the title (with the possible exception of the lowercase tag). You may copy and paste your submission body into the appropriate sections.
  5. SPECIAL CHARACTERS and FORMATTING: If you copy and paste the title and/or body of your abstract from your word processor, special characters should transfer, but formatting will not transfer. You can insert special characters and/or formatting tags using the Special Characters Palette. To access the palette, click on the "Special Characters" button located on the Title/Body page.
  6. DISCLOSURES: All authors will be asked to complete specific disclosures in order to finalize your submission.
  7. PRESENTATION TYPE AND TRACK: You will be asked to select the preferred presentation type for your abstract. Select the appropriate track and subtrack using the drop-down menus provided. The abstract tracks for 2011 are as follows:
      
  • Track 1-  Metabolism and Integrative Physiology: This track will encompass basic science as well as mechanistic human studies of metabolism and physiology relevant to obesity. Topics areas will include inflammation, adipogenesis, nutrient metabolism, thermogenesis, and the physiology of nutrient excess. 
 
  • Track 2 -  Neuroscience:This track will focus exclusively on the neuroscience of obesity.   Topic areas will include central control of satiety and energy metabolism, leptin biology, hormonal signaling in the brain, neural imaging, neural development, and neuropeptides.
 
  • Track 3 - Intervention and Clinical Studies:Track 3 is composed of experimental studies, intervention trials and clinic based outcomes research on topics relevant to obesity and its consequences in children and adults.  
 
  • Track 4 - Population Health and Policy:Track 4 includes observational (descriptive, cross-sectional, and longitudinal) population-based research on the environmental, lifestyle, psychosocial, and genetic causes and consequences of obesity among children and adolescents. Policy-based research is also included in this track.
 
  1. AWARDS: Some submitters may be eligible for awards. You will be asked to designate your interest by selecting the appropriate option.
  2. INSTITUTIONS/AFFILIATIONS: You will be asked to enter all the institutional affiliations for your authors prior to adding the authors' names. You do not need to enter institutions in a particular order to be able to designate author affiliations. After entering all affiliations, you will proceed to the next step of adding authors and associating them with the already entered affiliations.
  3. AUTHORS: Please enter all authors in the order they should appear in the heading of the abstract. If you (the Submitting Author) are not the Presenter on a submission, you will need to provide contact information on the Presenter.
  4. KEYWORDS: Up to 3 keywords may be selected. You are required to select at least 1 keyword(s).
  5. GRAPHICS: The Obesity Society accepts text only abstracts; tables, graphs, or other images may not be submitted.
  6. DETAILS/SUPPLEMENTAL DATA: Please answer all required questions in the details section. If you are requested to submit supplemental data in the form of an attachment, you may upload .doc, .rtf, or .pdf files.
  7. PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED ABSTRACTS: An abstract cannot contain data already accepted for publication as an original manuscript at the time of abstract submission or previously published and/or presented elsewhere.
  8. EMBARGO POLICY: No abstract or presentation may be announced, publicized, or distributed before the embargo date. This applies to all formats of abstract publication–including the hard copy of the Obesity 2011 Abstract book, online via the Society’s Web site, and other presentations.
  9. ABSTRACT PROOF: Carefully check the proof of your abstract. Make sure all special characters and formatting are displaying properly. If you find errors, return to the appropriate page by clicking on the page name in the left-hand menu to make your corrections.
  10. COMPLETING YOUR SUBMISSION: If you have not completed all required sections and details you will not be able to submit. When all required information is entered, the "Submit" button will appear at the bottom of the "Proof and Submit" page.
  11. SUBMISSION FEE: The fee for submitting abstracts for Obesity 2011 is $65. Abstracts will not be reviewed without proper payment.
  12. NOTIFICATIONS: Notifications will be emailed by late May 2011. If you do not receive your notification by June 10, 2011, please contact The Obesity Society.
  13. WITHDRAWALS: All abstracts will be published in the 2011 Abstract Supplement unless withdrawn by May 30, 2011.
