SILVER SPRING, MD, June 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — To promote the science behind obesity prevention and treatment, The Obesity Society (TOS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) are combining resources to host the world’s pre-eminent meeting on obesity, ObesityWeekSM 2013, Nov. 11-16, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia. For the first time, both organizations will co-locate their respective annual meetings under one roof for the most comprehensive agenda in obesity research, treatment and prevention.

“We’re excited to host this unique, international event focused on the basic science, clinical application, and prevention of obesity – the most severe health problem in the United States and abroad,” said Philip R. Meeting session topics and presentations will provide the latest information and resources in obesity to international scientists, clinicians, policymakers and the many others looking to learn more about advances in the prevention, treatment, and health consequences of obesity. Keynote presentations at this year’s event will discuss new strategies to address obesity and will be delivered by Thomas Farley, MD, Commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and Bruce M. Spiegelman, PhD, professor of Cell Biology and Medicine at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School.
