Series. During the next 3 months, NAASO will present
FREE evening symposia in 18 major
metropolitan US cities. November locations include

Four awards reflecting various characteristics in the
career of obesity researchers will be presented at the
2004 Annual Meeting, November 14-18, Las Vegas.
The four awards and the 2003 Awardees are:
TOPS Award - SB Heymsfield,
MD Lilly Scientific Achievement Award -
RJ Seeley, PhD Stunkard
Lifetime Achievement Award - GA Bray,
MD George Bray Founders Award -
BC Hansen, PhD
Nominations for each of the awards are now being
accepted. Nominations must be received by
December 31, 2003.

Ethan Sims Young Investigator Award Winner
Congratulations to the Ethan Sims
Young
Investigator
Award Winner, Stella P. Kim. This
prestigious award was
announced during the NAASO Business Meeting, on
October 14. Ms. Kim's research is entitled
Cell "Rest" by Decreased 1st Pass Hepatic Insulin
Extraction in the Insulin Resistant, Fat-Fed Dog
Model. Congratulations to all of the Award
Finalists for
submitting high quality, stimulating research.

dynamic interchanges of ideas and information. You
will be able to post your ideas, suggestions, and pose
problematic queries for a variety of subject forums.

$500,000 Unrestricted Cardiovascular Research Grant
from Bristol-Myers Squibb for research by Aldons J.
Lusis, Ph.D., a leader in the use of mouse genetics.
- October 27 marked the official
presentation of the
Obesity Book in Mexico
City.

| Case Study of the Month - Call for Submissions |

This spot is reserved for your Case-
Study of the Month
report. You are invited to send obesity-related unique
and peculiar cases encountered during the treatment of
obesity. This information sharing is expected to
increase the dialogue among the membership and
promote future collaborative projects, leading to the
advancement of knowledge in the field.
SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
The submission
should not be more than 4000 words, and should
include Abstract (200 words), Introduction, Case
Report, Discussion and References sections. Please
follow Obesity Research style guide for citing
references. In addition, a 50 word summary / short
abstract should be included. This 50 words note will be
published in Obesity - NAASO's newsletter, and will
serve to attract attention of newsletter readers to the
case report, which will be published online in a PDF
format.
Please send your submissions
electronically as a
Microsoft Word document attachment to the Case
Study editor, Dr. Nikhil
Dhurandhar

Submissions will be
reviewed and the editor's decision will be final.
Accepted case reports will be published online, with
links provided in Obesity, the new online newsletter of
NAASO and on the NAASO website,
www.naaso.org.
