Late-Breaking Abstract Submission Opens July 17
|

Do you have new data that wasn't ready
in time for this year's regular abstract submission deadline? If so, you
can submit your research as a Late-Breaking Abstract. Late-Breaking
Abstracts will be accepted beginning July 17, and the deadline for
submission is 11:59 PM on August 11. As with the regular abstract
submission period, submission is completely online. Accepted
Late-Breaking Abstracts will be presented as posters only, and will be
printed in Obesity in early

accepting nominations for Fellows who are interested in serving the
Society in one of the Council positions that will be elected later this
year:

- Vice
President (assumes the role of President-Elect and President in subsequent
years)

From the Southwest
TEXAS
Dr. Shine Chang has finished up her time at the NCI where she
served as Associate Director for Professional Development and Evaluation
for four years. In February 2006, she came back to The University of
Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center where she is both the Director for
Cancer Prevention Education Programs and an Associate Professor of
Epidemiology. She and her husband bought a craftsman-style house and have
recently adopted a delightful chocolate Labrador named
"Brownie," who helps her burn calories!

CALIFORNIA
Dr. Britt Burton-Freeman (Assistant Research Nutritionist, UC Davis) will be
traveling to the SSIBS meeting in Florida in two weeks to report new
findings on the effects of caseinomacropeptide and whey on satiety in men
and women. In September, Dr. Burton-Freeman and Dr. Nancy Keim will be joining forces
to speak at the World Grains Summit: Foods and Beverages in San Francisco. The symposium is Health Issues and Snacks with their focused talk on
"Snacking in Modern Lifestyle."
NEVADA
Dr. Davis Cottam (Surgical
Weight Control Centers) has received a grant on the studies of metabolic
profile, hormones, cancer, obesity, and weight loss.
