The Obesity Society Newsletter

May 2009 |
Dear Society Members,
You will shortly be receiving a preliminary program booklet for our annual meeting that will be held on October 24-28 in Washington, DC. The program committee has worked hard to select cutting-edge topics and expert speakers for all five tracks. This year we have also added a call for "late-breaking abstracts" to hear about results from clinical trials that are important for our membership. The Advocacy Task Force is also planning on holding a forum on the first day of the meeting that will address obesity health care policy challenges for the nation. I encourage you to register early for the meeting to take advantage of the "early-bird special." I also encourage all new investigators (defined as individual members who have received a doctorate within the past five years) to apply for The Obesity Society's New Investigator Research Grants Program. This program, which has supported multiple researchers over the past years, is vital to the future growth of young scientists in the field of obesity. Applications are due June 8th.
Nominations for the society's awards program are also due June 8th. Our awards program promotes, encourages, and honors research in the field of obesity. Awards will be presented at the Annual Scientific Meeting in Washington, DC October 24-28, 2009. Sincerely,
Robert Kushner, MD President, The Obesity Society |
