TOS Review Course for the ABOM Exam

TOS review course for the ABOM Exam is a course designed to increase physicians' obesity knowledge in preparation for the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) exam. This year's course will be taught by some of the industry's top educators, and will include a new workbook — an important tool both in class for taking notes, and later as you study for the upcoming exam. Mobile Health Boot Camp for Pediatric Obesity

This full day pre-conference workshop offers a primer on mHealth using obesity prevention and treatment examples, and will include public health and clinical perspectives. The workshop will be conducted in a "boot camp" format: after each presentation, small groups will develop mock mHealth interventions.



Careers in Academia Pre-Conference Workshop

This pre-conference workshop provides early-career members (e.g. students, postdocs, fellows, junior faculty, and other early-career investigators) who are in academia or considering an academic path an opportunity to meet, learn from, and mingle with TOS Fellows and peers. Activities will include a keynote address, a Q&A session with an expert panel, and roundtable discussions on topics including successful interviewing, obtaining grant funding, excelling on the tenure track, and the elusive work/life balance.

TOS Review Course for the ABOM Exam

The 2013 review course will include an updated approach from the previous year. There will be more coverage of certain domains and discussion of sample test questions in addition to didactic lectures. Materials will be distributed to all attendees beforehand. The review course is designed as a tool to help physicians prepare for the board exam. It is not intended to be an exhaustive review of all content that will appear the board exam.


Mobile Health (mHealth) Boot Camp for Pediatric Obesity

This workshop will use prevention and treatment of pediatric obesity as model test-beds for mobile Health (mHealth) research and will offer a primer on mHealth from the ground up. It will include sessions on how to develop a transdisciplinary team for the chosen problem and capturing enormous amounts of data in real-time). At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Compare and contrast mHealth methodologies including strengths and weaknesses
  • Identify novel approaches to analyzing real-time, large-scale datasets
  • Network with leaders in the mHealth, pediatric obesity, and federal/non-federal funding agency communities

Mechanisms by Which Weight Loss Therapies Improve the Health of Patients

This workshop, presented by key opinion leaders in obesity medicine, will help you better understand the mechanisms by which weight loss therapies may improve the health of patients via scientific presentations.


PUBLIC PRE-CONFERENCE: Establishing Healthy Habits at Home

This 120-minute session will offer tools and techniques to help parents identify the best ways to establish healthy eating habits at home. This session has been developed by leading experts Penny Gordon-Larsen, PhD, Steven Heymsfield, MD and Marie-Pierre St-Onge, PhD. The intended audience is the general public.
