Early-Career Investigator Committee

In 2006, a Student/Post-doc Committee was formed to represents the interests of the student/postdoctoral members of The Obesity Society (TOS) and plan and organize student activities at meetings, including scholarly and social events. As of 2009, the committee changed its name to Early-Career Investigator Committee (ECIC). The ECIC works to foster growth of new careers by establishing contacts with other early-career investigators, and forming relationships with senior researchers in related areas of interest. The committee serves as a strong and well-connected group of young researchers prepared to lead the way to future scientific discoveries that are vital to finding solutions to fight obesity and related diseases.

The ECIC is willing to connect with visitors to this site to answer any questions, inspire involvement in TOS, and help solidify a strong and successful career in obesity research.

The overarching goal of the 2009-2010 ECIC is to build a network of information exchange between early-career investigators and more established investigators. The committee aims to build TOS benefits and resources available to early-career investigators that will promote increased membership among young scientists engaged in obesity-related research and practice.

2009-2010 Goals:

1. Establish a functioning listserv for early-career investigators.
2. Update the Early-Career Investigator section of the Society website.
3. Research and develop a model for a TOS mentoring program for young investigators.
4. Plan a professional development and/or networking event for early-career investigators, to be hosted at the TOS 2010 Annual Meeting.
