The Obesity Society Nominations

The deadline to submit a proposed recommendation for the Governing Board and the Nominations Board has closed for 2023.

Elections will re-open fall 2024.   TOS members should check their email for a link to the ballot.

Proposed nominees must be Fellows or regular members of The Obesity Society in good standing. North American and international residents are eligible for office.

The Governing Board and the Nominations Board of The Obesity Society are elected by active members of the Society during our annual election process.

All proposed recommendations should consider the goal of having a diverse Governing Board and Nominations Board with respect to intellectual interests as well as gender, race/ethnicity, and age.

Governing Board Seats for Election

There are FOUR vacancies on the Governing Board. Board members serve in an advisory role, having specific roles in relationship to the current requirements of the Society. These responsibilities include oversight of committees, sections, and task forces, along with coordinating activities to meet strategic goals. Office term for Board members is three years with the exception of Vice President, who subsequently serves as President-Elect, President and Immediate Past President (4-year commitment).

FOUR positions include the following:

  1. Vice President
  2. At-Large Mexico
  3. Clinical Practice
  4. At-Large

Current Board members can be found here.

Nominations Board Seats for Election

There are TWO vacancies on the Nominations Board. This committee is critical in the development and subsequent nomination of strong candidates for elected office. It is their responsibility to review incoming proposed nominations for vacant positions, seek candidates for positions that have not received nominations and decide the slate of candidates for the Governing Board and Nominations Board for the annual election.

The current Nominations Board can be found here.

The nominations process for positions on the Executive Committee, the Governing Board, and the Nominations Board:

The Obesity Society identifies potential nominees for all elected positions by three avenues:

1. Proposed by a colleague
2. Proposed by self
3. TOS Nominations Board

All proposed candidates will be discussed by the Nominations Board, who makes the recommendation to Executive Committee for the individuals to be included on the election ballot.   A proposal for nomination does not guarantee that the proposed candidate will be on the election ballot.  The Nominations Board must balance several factors when identifying candidates, including the overall quality of and support for the candidate; the candidate’s past TOS involvement; and strategic initiatives of the organization.

Proposed Nomination Instructions (colleague or self):

If a colleague is being proposed, verify with the person you are proposing that they have an interest in serving, and ask them to provide the below items. These are the same items needed if a self-nomination is proposed.  Items needed:

Nomination Proposal Form
• Position for which one is applying
• Complete CV for the proposed candidate
• 3 letters of support

Submitting the Nomination

All nominations should be submitted by email to [email protected] indicating in the subject line the name of the nominee and the position of interest.
